Jacqui completed her MA (Clinical Psychology) at UPE in 1975 and completed her internship at Weskoppies Hospital in 1976. She is registered as a Clinical psychologist with the HPCSA (PS 0004405).
She has post qualification training in eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing and hypnotherapy.
She worked at the Transvaal Memorial Hospital for Children as principal psychologist and was part of the team that started the first child abuse unit in South Africa, a topic that she has internationally presented papers on. In 1979 she went into private practice. She worked for a short period at the Department of Labour developing psycho-education programmes. In 1993 she started a private practice again this time in Sunnyside, Pretoria with Elaine Bing and has worked in private practice since them.
Her interests include working with the effects of trauma and posttraumatic stress disorder, depression and anxiety disorders as well as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in both children and adults. She also does psycho-legal work.
She uses evidence-based interventions in her work. These are interventions that have good research support for their efficacy. She mostly uses cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) as well eye movement desensitisation and reprocessing (EMDR).
She works in English and Afrikaans.
