Academic Qualifications and Registration

Julia completed her MA (Clinical Psychology) at the University of Limpopo. She registered as a clinical psychologist with the HPCSA (PS0141046).

She has a post qualification training in HIV/AIDS Care and Counselling.

Work Experience

She completed her internship and community service at public hospitals. She worked with consults from both children and adults. During her community service, she was based at the Child Psychology Unit where she acquired experience with diagnosing, treating, and referring children and adolescents aged 2- 17. Her role also included parental guidance as well as care for the caregivers.

Interests

Her interests include working with children and adolescents [Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)], Depression and anxiety disorders in both children and adults, Parental guidance, Group therapy facilitation, Family therapy, Couples therapy, and HIV/AIDS counselling. Further interests include Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT).

Therapeutic Approaches

Brief and long term psychodynamic psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), as well as Integrative approach. She offers therapy that aims to develop understanding of one’s self so as to create deep and enduring changes in one’s life- (our behaviour, thoughts, and ways of relating)

Languages

Julia is fluent in SeTswana, Sotho, and English. She is conversant in IsiZulu and Afrikaans, and limited Xi-Tsonga.
