I am a registered Counselling Psychologist with over 12 years of experience in the field of psychology. I am the Director of a well-established, fast growing and vibrant practice called Pretoria Psychologist in Sunnyside, Pretoria. My areas of expertise are in relationships, marriage, families and group intervention. In collaboration with SADAG, Pretoria Psychologists is running free monthly support groups 1st Wednesday of every month.
Owing to my love for teaching, I enjoy media presence in informing the public on issues of mental health in lay-man’s terms. I have been featured a number of times on various SABC and DSTV talk shows and current affairs on mental health matters, as well as give regular expert opinion pieces on True Love, Your Baby magazine and Sowetan Lifestyle.
I have completed a Masters in Counselling Psychology at the University of Pretoria and registered as a Counselling Psychologist with the Health Profession Counsel (PS 0118141). My dissertation entitled "Experiences of HIV + pregnant women in a structured support group" introduced me to working with groups/support groups and social research. Since then, I have had more than 15 years’ experience in social research in academia and industry.
I worked as a consultant for G4S (Integra Pty Ltd) and KAYA Consulting (Previously known as The Associates) during my under-grad and post-grad studies. I am currently and Associate Consultant with KAYA Consulting and Paradigm Wellness. My work includes work done in companies, organisations and government institutions such as; such as First National Bank, JP Morgan, Department of Monitoring and Evaluation, South African Social Security Agency, South African Revenue Services, Council on Higher Education, uMalusi, Department of Public Enterprise, G4 security and South African Reserve Bank. As an associate consultant, I run workshops for graduate and young talent management programs.
I am an academic at the University of Pretoria where and involved in both post-graduate and undergraduate teaching and supervision. I specialise in community psychology which includes the development, implementation and evaluation of community intervention programs. My current research is focused on Wellbeing.
I have produced a number of technical reports and a number of publications in academic journals emanating from collaborative research both in South Africa and Sub-Sahara Africa. My published work features in international academic resources published under information age publishing and the University of Mexico.
I joined Pretoria Psychologists in private practice in 2012 as an associate and currently I am the practice’s Managing Director.
My interests include pre-marital, relationship and marriage counselling, parental guidance, HIV/AIDS counselling, information and management of families living with HIV/AIDS, bereavement, effects of childhood/adult sexual and physical abuse, trauma, work and home/family related stress and anxiety disorders.
I offer both brief and long-term systemic oriented psychotherapy. As a Christian, I use Christian counselling interventions for clients who prefer to be seen by a Christian therapist.
I am well-travelled, as a result, I can understand some Portuguese and French. Having grown up in a multi-lingual township, I am fluent in English, Sotho (SePedi, SeTswana, Sesotho), and Xi-Tsonga. I am also conversant in isiZulu and Afrikaans.
